MALAWI
Nestled in the southeastern part of the continent, Malawi is a land of captivating beauty, diverse landscapes, and vibrant cultures. From the shimmering waters of Lake Malawi, the third-largest freshwater lake in Africa, to the majestic peaks of Mount Mulanje, this nation offers a wealth of natural wonders.
Mangochi
Near the southern shores of Lake Malawi, you will find Mangochi. It is a predominantly Muslim city, home to the Yao tribe. Despite being a region marked by economic challenges, the Mangochi-region is known, even among Malawians, for its natural beauty.
The warm heart of Africa
Malawi is known as 'the Warm Heart of Africa,' a title earned through the remarkable warmth and friendliness of its people. Travelers, or mzungu, are welcomed with open arms, embraced by a culture of hospitality that goes beyond mere greetings.
Healthcare
Healthcare is limited which results in many preventable deaths, especially among mothers and young children.
1 in 24 children dies before their 5th birthday and maternal mortality rate is 80 times higher compared to the Netherlands or Belgium.
Education
There is a major teacher shortage in the country. Education is tuition free, but the large classes result in low learning efficiency. 1 in 3 young adults can’t read or write. Classrooms with more than 120 students are not exceptional.
